Frequently Asked Questions
How Does Therapy Work? Therapy is designed to offer the client a safe and confidential space to discuss their most intimate thoughts, feelings and experiences. One session generally lasts anywhere between 45-60 minutes and occurs over a period of time. Ideally, therapy is terminated after the client has met all identified goals and/or the identified stressors have been addressed and has become more manageable or resolved. Generally, termination is discussed after the client has identified healthy coping skills and support systems.

Does This Mean I’m Crazy? Attending therapy does not mean “you are crazy”. Therapy is intended for various reasons including that of personal growth. Individuals can attend therapy and discuss their thoughts about the stigma most commonly associated with receiving such services.

Will I Have a Diagnosis? Attending therapy does not warrant a mental health diagnosis. Often times a mental health professional may identify symptoms of a disorder and provide a preliminary diagnosis (diagnoses), other times a diagnosis is given and is discussed. Additionally, if a client decides to utilize their private health insurance to cover the cost of services then it is likely that a mental health diagnosis will be on file with both the counseling center and the managed care company.

Therapeutic Approach
Because I strongly believe that a person's perception of themselves, a situaton, and/or experience triggers their emotional and behavioral response, I ascribe to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is a type of therapy commonly used to address various mental health issues including (but not limited to) symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, stress disorders, anger issues, & oppositional defiant disorders in children, adolescents, and adults.

At Journey2Greatness, clients have liberty to disclose their most intimate thoughts in an effort to understand how their thoughts have shaped their perception for the sole purpose of understanding his or her emotional and behavioral responses. Clients are challenged to assess and address their thought patterns in order to change unhealthy and unproductive behaviors. IF clients should discover unhealthy and/or unrealistic thought pattern they are encouraged to challenge such thoughts so that they may develop the skills necessary to respond more appropriately.

Together we can explore ways to replace negative thoughts and behaviors with ones that are more effective and efficient for personal, professional and if desired, spiritual development. Ultimately, the overarching goal is for clients to learn to control and minimize any unhealthy thoughts that they may develop healthier and more meaningful responses.
